Fall's Love Affair

I tread life's empty street, musing where the road might lead.
All the lonely eve's, day's warm hue forever fading from sight,
"Where will I find you, my love, I cried.  A friend I surely need,
To share eternal dreams; to bring light to my life's dark nights!"

Bidding that day farewell, stoutly I turned and faced the future.
Unknown was my fate, love's peril I knew not, but I laid trust
In that voice of instinct that declared, 'shared passion is sure!'
The mystique of Aphrodite's sway is blind, but hopefully just.

When our roads finally merged, strangers lost in a swirling sea
Of engagements and choices, I wanted to love you, and you me.
Companionship led to passion and commitment for only the other;
And 'twas decided would center on Jesus Christ, our elder brother.

Forever we'll mark that brief encounter - that spark in time,
That moment mutual friendship became mutual love sublime.
Eternally, we'll bless the point love was born that bright eve,
Carried 'midst the colored wings of autumn's falling leaves.
